LIVESTOCK and LIVE MUSIC ON THE EGHAM SHOWGROUND AT WHITEHALL LANE, EGHAM
Rare breeds of pigs and sheep will be judged in the livestock area at the Egham Royal Show this Saturday and Sunday, and local Live music will be performed on both days in the real ale tent.
Pig classes are back at Egham for the first time since 1997, and visitors will be able to see tarditional and modern breeds, like the Gloucestershire Old Spot, going through their paces, including a young handlers class and an obstacle course - for pigs!
Visitors can also admire rare breeds of sheep and poultry, including Alpacas from the Heathrow Special Needs Farm, plus some distinctive Dexter cattle.
Children can try the ancient art of milking, using the special wooden 2D Friesian cows, so they can answer that age old question, where does milk really come from?
Also at the Show is the live music and real ale marquee, sponsored by HCL-Axon Group, with a varied line-up to suit all tastes.
Over Saturday and Sunday, visitors will see local newcomers including Restaurant Mystery, Sundae Cups and Noddegrama, alongside the Phil Astles Blues Band, Riff Raff, and a variety of Folk and Blues Club favourites like George Wilson, Said and Done, Castaways and the ever-popular Hythe Singers.
The live music marquee is free for visitors, with a real ale bar and a picnic area to complement the feast of live music on offer.
The 152nd Show will be opened by the Mayor of Runnymede, Cllr Margaret Roberts, at 10am on Saturday, and will close with a Barn Dance on Saturday evening. It will be open again from 10am to 6pm on Sunday.
Tickets are £6 for adults, £3 for children under 16, and free for children under 5. Senior citizens' tickets are £5. There is unlimited free parking, thanks to the support of Procter and Gamble.
The Show features old favourites such as the Punch and Judy Show, classic and vintage vehicles, steam and traction engines, cage birds, the model marquee, plus the horticulture marquee where entries can be received up to Saturday morning for flowers, vegetables and cookery.
This year, the Show will also help to promote the Prince's Countryside Fund, launched by HRH The Prince of Wales last month. It is a unique collaboration of businesses, including local sponsor Waitrose, working together to secure a sustainable future for British agriculture and the wider rural economy. |
