Vintage & Classic Vehicle

Written by Douglas Newton.

The vintage and classic vehicle section had 185 entrants over the weekend. On display were an interesting and unusual selection of cars, motorcycles and historic commercials, we also had a small selection of custom cars too.
The entries ranged from a British built 1927 Austin 16/6 the family has owned for 36 years and have attended Egham Royal Show with the Austin each of those years, to a Crewe built classic 1947 Bentley that the public choose as their best in show Saturday. A 1927 two seater Austin tourer was chosen by the public as best in show Sunday. When this car was built in 1927 it cost just £150. My cut-off date for entrants is 1987 so several 1960s 70s and 80s vehicles on show too.
Many of the vehicles were presented to a very high standard making it a difficult task for my team of judges to decide on the winners in each class. On both days of the show the vehicles paraded around the main ring where a commentary was given and prizes handed out to the winners. All entrants receive a commemorative brass plaque too. Also displaying in the vintage and classic vehicle section were traders selling auto-jumble and specialist model cars.
