History of the Horticulture Classes at The Egham Royal Show
The Horticulture classes were first added into the show in 1931. This information has been taken from Egham Agriculture Show reports
“Yesterdays record exhibition” dated 2nd October 1931:
Each year sees an extension of the schedule and for the 1931 show there was a larger number of classes than ever previously. This was due to the inclusion of a horticulture section for cottagers etc. the association to all intents and purposes having taken over the Egham and District Horticultural Society.
"The 1931 Show A.G.M. report” dated 4th March 1932:
The annual show was most successful, and the entries exceed those of the previous by 100, and in addition there were upwards of 200 in the horticulture section. That, together with the increased gate receipts, indicated that the show was growing both in size and popularity. The horticulture section was enlarged by the inclusion of cottagers, gardeners and cookery classes, and provided a most attractive feature to the show. That addition was made possible by the incorporation of the Egham and District Horticulture Society by the association.
